Dental Implants Q&A

these are some common questions that Dr. Bloch hears (and answers) everyday:
What is a dental implant?
What types of dental implant solutions does Dr. Bloch provide?
Why choose dental implants?
I’ve heard of All-on-Four dental implants? What does that mean?
Am I a candidate for dental implants?
Can Dr. Bloch help me?

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant consists of two parts: a tiny, surgical-grade titanium post placed in the jawbone, and a custom-made replacement tooth attached to the post. Dr. Bloch uses dental implants to replace single teeth, multiple teeth, and complete upper and/or lower rows of teeth. After careful consultation and planning, he surgically implants the biocompatible posts in the jawbone. A process called osseointegration occurs in which the bone fuses with the posts to form a secure foundation for replacement teeth crafted by our lab or your general dentist.

What types of dental implant solutions does Dr. Bloch provide?

Dr. Bloch delivers comprehensive care to restore incomplete smiles, including:

Replacing a Single Tooth: A dental implant inserted into the socket of a missing tooth secures a custom ceramic crown. Your new tooth will look and feel natural and blend beautifully with your existing smile.

Replacing Multiple Teeth: Dr. Bloch can replace missing teeth in a row or gaps scattered throughout your smile with an implant-supported bridge. Unlike conventional bridgework, which utilizes dental crowns to anchor replacement teeth, an implant-supported bridge requires no alteration of existing teeth. Instead, your implant dentist will secure your bridge with strategically placed dental implants.  Natural teeth remain in their proper position, and jawbone mass is preserved.

Replacing All of Your Teeth: Dentures supported with dental implants provide extraordinary comfort and function. This long-lasting alternative to conventional dentures looks natural and provides unmatched stability to let you eat the foods you love and smile with confidence. Implant-supported dentures are typically more esthetically pleasing than conventional ones, as well. Dr. Bloch may recommend the All-on-Four dental implants system to replace your teeth and restore your smile. Learn more about All-on-Four dental implants…

Why choose dental implants?

As a Pittsburgh Dental Implants patient, you’ll reap the innumerable rewards this modern restorative solution provides, including:

  • A more youthful appearance: Facial skin and muscles are supported, which means no more sunken cheeks or lips that curl in.
  • No diet restrictions: Eat what you want – your smile is secure.
  • Preservation of jawbone mass: When teeth are missing, jawbone mass deteriorates. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement system that minimizes bone loss.
  • No denture paste, and no embarrassing slippage.
  • Long-lasting dental beauty, function, and comfort.
  • Improved speech clarity.
  • Increased confidence because your smile looks and feel fantastic!

I’ve heard of All-on-Four dental implants? What does that mean?

Dr. Bloch offers his patients Nobel Biocare’s All-on-four dental implants system, a tooth replacement method that allows patients to receive implant-retained replacement teeth in a single day, in most cases. With All-on-Four, Dr. Bloch surgically places four implant posts in the jawbone, then attaches temporary replacement teeth. After the jawbone fuses with the posts during the healing period, All-on-Four dental implants patients receive permanent replacement teeth to beautifully renew their smiles – and their lives! The All-on-Four system isn’t right for every patient. Dr. Bloch and our expert team will perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine if this tooth replacement method is right for you.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Almost anyone who needs to replace one or more teeth is a candidate for dental implants. Dr. Bloch will conduct a comprehensive examination to evaluate your individual needs, review your medical history, and discuss your concerns and expectations to determine your candidacy.

The dentist will use state-of-the-art Cone Beam Computerized Tomography to obtain detailed images of your oral structures. Because dental implants are inserted into the jawbone, adequate jawbone mass is crucial for long-term success. The highly detailed pictures created by our scanning technology let Dr. Bloch assess jawbone structure and determine if additional procedures, such as sinus augmentation or bone grafting, are necessary. If you require procedure(s) to shore up jawbone mass, Dr. Bloch can perform them prior to or at the same time as your dental implant placement surgery. The Cone Beam scan also facilitates precise placement of your implants.

Ideal candidates for dental implants possess good oral health. If you have underlying oral health issues to resolve, Dr. Bloch will work you and your general dentist to improve your oral health and prepare your smile for dental implants.
